water pump failure/replacement
so my water pump just failed on me, just pouring out of it. it had a small leak already which i knew was a sign it was gonna need replaced soon, but today it really said no more. just went and got all the parts, $141 at napa for new pump, gasket, o-ring, extention tube, upper and lower hoses, 180 thermostat, some sealant, scrapers, and coolant. not exactly as cheap as i thought it would be, but non the less i gotta get it done. gonna do it tomorrow after work, ill take pics the whole time for everyone

Mine takes 14 quarts but during summer I drain it and put 1.5 quarts and rest water with a bottle of water wetter. The water wetter drops the coolant temp 20°. By adding only 15% coolant and rest water it will drop the max coolant temp to 200°. But you must run atleast 15% coolant so that the water doesn't corrode anything.

I remember doing this job in the underground parking lot of my old condo a few years ago. I had never done a WP job before. Me and my buddy disassembled the whole front of the truck (removed radiator, grill, condensor, etc) in my parking spot and got some funny looks from people. My truck stood out like a sore thumb anyways since everyone else in the building had Mercedes, BMWs and Toyotas. This just made thing worse.
The worst part of this job was the fan clutch. Removing this proved a real pain the a**. I didn't have the tool to remove it and my strap wrench would not budge it, so I took off the entire water pump, fan clutch and fan assembly and to took it to a shop next door. They beat at it with an air chisel and an impact hammer and nothing would budge it. I ending up buying a new one instead.
Apart from that it's pretty straightforward. Just take your time cleaning the old gaskets off and remember to put the spring in the lower rad hose so it doesn't collapse during driving.

well im all done now, besides filling it up and runnin it, gonna wait till tomorrow so the gasket can setup for sure for sure. the fan clutch wasnt too bad actually, it was tough but came off no prob. i noticed that wire spring in the lower hose, wasnt sure if it was necessary so i didnt reuse it. ill do that before filling it up again. whats a good way to get it out and in the new one?
