Default 95 transmission issue

i have a 95 4x4 and while my dad was at work the transmission kept spinning but the truck wasn't going any where. i have no knowledge of automatic trans just manual. i have video that may help diagnose the problem. Goes into gear but just wont move and makes a weird whirring sound. also looks like its leaking from the transfer case.

Id really appreciate the help and im doing all the reading i can to figure this out.

Thanks a lot!

Does any gear work? Low 1 or low 2 or reverse? Have you checked fluid level?

On the off chance you did not know this here is the correct procedure for checking the fluid. If you need to add make sure you get the right fluid. The wrong type of fluid will make it run poorly.

And after all that - sounds like it's time to have the truck towed to a transmission shop and have the transmission rebuilt / replaced.

I will have to check it doing that method. Im not really trying to take it to a shop im hoping to drop it myself and try to figure it out. Im in no rush to have it done i would like to save cash with me doing the labor and learning at the same time

Then I would highly, HIGHLY recommend both a) the factory service manual for your truck (try Ebay, http://www.autobooksbishko.com/ for the original printer for Chrysler, or even several online forums with a no-charge downloadable copy), b) a nice bench you can leave it apart on for a while, and c) plenty of time. It's not all that difficult (yes, a lot of the transmission folks out there are smart, competent, and capable; but when you get old enough you can find the ones that seem to have been sniffing the old Dexron a bit too much, if you know what I mean, that can still do a good job ... it's not rocket science after all.)

Study up the manual carefully, and then decide if you really want to tackle it or not.

Thanks Ralph i will find that manual and start studying. If anyone has any general idea of what it may be from the sound or discription that would be awesome. Just would like to know where to even think about starting.

Looking forward to getting into this.

1) Front pump failed.

2) Torque converter failed.

3) Broken shift linkage causing it to stay in PARK when you shift it

4) If it will move in 4WD mode, possible broken U-joint causing the rear wheels to be non-functional.

5) Bands or friction plates bare.

That's just off the top of my head, in no particular order.
