Default Brain fart question

4x4 front drive shafts are the same length on the same transmission regardless of wheel base right?

Looking at page 483 of the 94-96 parts list (in the FAQ here), I notice that wheelbase is one of the items (listed as "BODY", body 31 is club cab on a 138,7" wheel base, 32 is club cab on a 154.7" wheelbase, 61 is regular cab on 118.7" wheelbase). They list SEVEN different driveshafts, and only body shows the 42RE/42RH/46RE/46RH as different.

So, I'd have to say yes, they do vary.

Of course, that could also be diameter of shaft, or even vendor making it for Chrysler at the time (a Dorman shaft is a different number than a Detroit Axle shaft, even if they are otherwise identical, for instance.)

Caveat emptor.

I would *think* that since the engine/trans/tcase location doesn't change, and the only real changes are BEHIND the t-case.... that front shafts may vary with what trans you have, but, that should be the only real difference.

Of course, just because that makes sense, does NOT imply that's the way it is.....

I'll buy you a sixer of your choice ****ty beer if there are any major (i.e. that prevent direct swapping and proper operation) differences between the shafts.

But no, I don't know for positive. Lemme know, PayPal at the ready.

FWIW I believe this is correct. When looking on rock auto they show the same front driveshaft for all manual transmission dakota 87-96 and said it is 25in.

Then for 94-96 they show a 27 in shaft for the 42-46 re transmission.
