Default evaporust or metal rescue?

Wondering if any of you have used these and what your opinion is. Mainly thinking spring hangers, shackles, etc. FWIW as an experiment, I used about 1/2 gal of white vinegar and after 2 days it does little.

You could do the electrolysis method using a 5 gallon bucket, water, some sacrificial steel, jumper cables and a car battery. It seriously gets ALL the rust off. Really cool. I used it for all the metal stuff.

I've used it on small parts. The thing is you need to fully submerge whatever you are trying to remove rust from in the vinegar. Then when done wash it good and run some balking soda and water over it to stop any vinegar left behind from continuing to work.
As I recall after two days the rust came off fairly easy with a wire brush.

You know, I forgot all about the post of you doing that. Can you give me a link to that post? FWIW I was looking at a few sites about this method. I have a 50 gal plastic drum. My battery charger is a 2-30 amp with a 200 amp boost. I have a lot of scrap steel pipe...

I have had one of the spring hangers soaking now for about 5 days. It has helped, but getting a wire brush in some areas is darn near impossible.

It seems to be the vinegar of choice for the tractor crowd I hang with.
