"Some" things have indeed gotten better, but, they have also gotten significantly more complicated. I remember when my power window switch actually controlled power to the window motor, not just suggested to some computer that I want my window down further....... Even the friggin' turnsignals are computerized these days.....

And of course, working on them has gotten MUCH more complicated as well. I don't think there really is any such thing as an "automotive tech" any more. Most of 'em are just parts replacers. And that simply doesn't work out well, especially if you are out of warranty.
I bought my first fuel injected automobile in 1986. A Chevy. I remember opening the hood looking for the carburetor. All I saw was a big blob of metal spanning over the engine compartment. I closed the hood and said to myself, "My car fixin' days are over". Well, they weren't. I adapted and figured out how to fix stuff that busted. But truthfully, I know I can't work on today's cars. You have to be an IT tech. Mechanics, not welcome. I hate to admit to this, almost embarrassed. But I wouldn't know how to start one of these new cars. I wouldn't know what to do.

My first fuel injected car was a volkswagon Scirocco. Mechanical fuel injection. After drive a carbed Rabbit, I was STUNNED at how much better the injected motor was. And that was the only change..... GM tried fuel injection earlier, on the vettes, back in the late 50's, early 60's, but, that system was rather problematic, and didn't last long.

I came around to think fuel injection was one of the better upgrades to automobiles.

To keep it en familia, Mopar also went fuel injected in 1958. 1958 Chrysler-DeSoto Electrojector - World’s First Electronic Fuel Injection | Allpar Forums

Now that is cool. If they had better materials for the electronics, that would have had a major impact on the automotive industry.

Yep.

Rebuilding a box with modern capacitors, it should work a treat.

Back to ball joints...I'm looking at this loaner press kit from Advanced (Powerbuilt, KIT 46). Looks like it has that upper ball joint socket in it.

That's good news!

DO make sure it fits; there's three Mopar sizes.

I saw two different sizes off the photo. I’m glad you mentioned there are three mopar sizes. Hopefully it has the one for mine. If it does I’ll return the Sunex I bought. $20 bucks is $20 bucks.
