1995 stock 3.9 to a 318 or 360 with carb
I have a 95 3.9L 2x2 that I would like to swap a 318 or a 360 into since I hear they are relatively the same.
Do both the 318 and 360 drop onto stock motor mounts of a 95 3.9?
Will I be able to reuse most 3.9 parts such as alternator and fan?
Do you have a recommendation or preference to either engine to swap and if so why?
20 and this will be my first swap. I have a friend who already tossed a 400 into a first gen s10 so I have some things planned out just looking to clarify some things with the dodge guys who have seen a thing or two. I appreciate any help

Go with the 360.
If you are going to do the work, might just as well go for the additional cubes.
I think the accessories will all swap over. Not sure about the fan though. The 3.9 unit might be too long.... (or, the v-6 radiator shroud might need to be changed out.) You will need some variety of electronic ignition though, as you won't have the computer to control spark. Lots of folks make easy conversions for that.

i appreciate the info, so a 360 is good to fit on stock motor mounts? Getting a new fan + shroud isn’t something that will turn me away from the swap that shouldn’t be an issue. Yeah I’ll have to look into running an ignition wire I believe my friend had to as well since he carb swapped his 400.
So either way I’ll be able to use what’s already there rather then needed new mounts. I can work with that. Do you recommend swapping trans to or will the stock A500 bolt up/ last more than a month?
How long the trans survives depends on a lot of things, most important of which, is how you drive it.
If you are heavy on the go-pedal with your new-found power.... don't expect it to last long.

Thank you! I appreciate all the advice and information. I’ll come back to this thread with any and all information if I end up finding a motor anytime soon to swap in.

I replied in your other post, but just wanted to add a couple things.
1 shumaker made conversion mounts to put a v8 in the Dakota.
2. Late model LA engines used the same mount, but earlier were different. I think.
3. All other things being equal, the 360 will make more power. Think of the 360 as a 318 that is bored and stroked!
IMO its a no brainer, go with the extra cubes.
