I don’t think so? I dont know it’s possible that I didn’t look hard enough lol but the previous owner changed the brakes just before I bought it and I did see proof of that when I had the wheels off. I haven’t looked recently but it’s kind of done it ever since I bought the thing so I’m not to sure. I am sort of “throwing parts at it” in a sense because I’m replacing the pads rotors and calipers because of the warpage and the wheels locking up so I’m thinking it’s possible I just have a weird scenario but I wanted to see if there was potentially another common issue

If he put 'em on dry, depending on the compound, squeaking could be considered 'normal'. When I do disk brakes, I have this cool stuff called "Disk Brake Quiet"... that comes in a rattle can. You basically paint it on the backing plate, and it acts as a vibration dampener between the pad and caliper... They never squeak.... Even the truly gnarly semi-metallic pads that give you steel slivers.

might have to give that a try, I’ve always put brake grease on the back of the pads and have had good luck with that. I’m also going to use powerstop pads which I know from experience are nice and quiet as I run them on my jeep. It’s funny how when I had to change rotors and pads because a stuck caliper destroyed my pads and I used the Napa gold ones, it sounded like a school bus

While driving and hearing the squeak, apply the emergency brake lightly, and see if the noise goes away or changes..... If it does, its coming from the rear.

Edit to add. I believe the grease should only be used on the caliper slides.

That’s actually a good idea I’ve never thought of that

Owning a carbureted truck with no idea how a carb works may as well be another full time job lmao

Well guys. Update, and not a good one. I royally screwed up my engine. I replaced my lifters with the Hughes 5007 lifters, ticking went away, but what I didn’t notice is that the intake manifold gasket on the driver bank slipped off slightly so it did not seal the rear coolant jacket, and it dumped coolant into my oil.

Engine ran fine yesterday for 15 minutes before I realized there was coolant in the oil (almost 2 gallons). Drained the oil, pushed it back into the garage and let it sit overnight while I waited for a new intake gasket. (I was hoping I got lucky as the engine was still running at the time).

New gasket on, added oil, started it up, ran for 5 seconds, died while making an awful screeching noise, and would not turn over. Plugs out, belt off, breaker bar on crank doesn’t turn engine over, and the starter does but it sounds like an old tractor with a dead battery.

Guess I have to pull the motor again. Really sucks because I really just started to get my carb dialed and everything too.
