Default recharge a/c

So I replaced the comp, drier, cond, orifice tube, hoses, flushed the evaporator. evacuated for a few hours and when putting first can of freon in, the comp cycles on and the high side gauge pegs at 500 psi, then drops when it cycles off. Seems like a restriction somewhere but all is new and the evap blew clear with air pressure. Any ideas as where to look?

Firs thought comes to mind is if a plug was left in one of the fittings on installation

May be worth a look my 96 takes 2.00lbs of refrigerant cycling compressor can also mean low charge. One can usually isn’t enough to charge the whole system but if there is a restriction common places are expansion valve and condenser

I installed a new condenser and orifice tube when I did all the other work. I guess its possible the new condenser is clogged somehow. Will report back if and when I find the problem. It's hard to find time to work on it as I just had open heart surgery a couple months ago and the wife ride's herd on me like nurse Ratchet

She knows you too well, and wants to keep you around for a while longer.

when it spiked at 500, what did the low side read?
Were you liquid charging or vapor charging?
If, vapor charging, and low side around 0, I would suspect a blockage, in the piping going from the compressor to the condenser, or close to the opening of the condenser.
If it was further down stream, I believe you could get more then a can in it without spiking the pressure to 500 psi. It would condense in the condenser and hold most or all of the charge.

So I rechecked it today after pulling a vacuum on the system. With about 1/2 can of feron in the system the high side was 350 and the low side was 30 with the comp engaged, the discharge hose was almost to hot to touch and the low side just warm. I checked the discharge side at the orifice tube and the temp difference was a lot, I could touch it on the condenser side but not the compressor side of the line. So I'm guessing the orifice tube is bad or installed backwards. I will evacuate and check the orifice tube. I don't think the condenser is bad, they are a pain to change

Well it looks like my son put the orifice tube it the line from the comp to the condenser instead of on the evaporator line at the cond. although I don't see how it is going to fit there. The line from at the cond end is to short before it bends 90* and the same at the evap end it doesn't want to go into the tube, Dose this vehicle have the orifice tube inside the line from the evap to the cond and I have to replace the whole line?
