My cruise control cable was damaged in a small engine fire. It has to be replaced. I'm certain I will figure it out but I'm always looking for tips and tricks to make it easier (without destroying anything). Please note the pics below. There are three connection points.
Cable to servo (on firewall)
at the throttle body
at the bracket just before the throttle body.
If anyone has ever worked on this I am all ears as to how to disconnect this cable. The FSM helps but only so much. It appears there is some kind of spring clip thingy between the cable and servo after removing those two nuts. Not exactly sure how it works.
Did you find a replacement cable only? Personally if available i would buy the whole assembly or gamble on a used one, much simpler to replace.
I have never tried splitting the servo
Yes, I found a used cable-only. It's on its way. I saw cable-servo configs but not for my truck. I'm sure availability of the cable-servo fluctuates widely. I could check today and it will be there or I might have to wait three months. Never can tell. I guess if replacing the cable-only fails I always have the option of waiting to get the cable-servo. I'll just have to eat the $50 I spent already. I know the cable-only is no longer made and I don't believe the cable-servo is being made anymore either.
See what the cable looks like when it arrives. May give ya a clue how things come apart.
I was kinda counting on that. Just looking at how it attaches to the bracket ahead of the throttle body looks like a mystery to me. But I appreciate an old run down mechanic empathizing how this old run down man can't inspect it closely while on the truck.
The bracket at the throttle body should just have a couple "ears" that stick out.... squeeze 'em together with a pair of pliers, and then just push it thru.

The piece that goes over the top of the throttle body end looks like either a press fit or a push n slide like you see on things you connect to a wall...that keyhole looking thing you secure to a screw head in the wall. And now that I read the FSM again, it appears the cable attaches to the servo via a small pin...probably press fit as well. Push out with a paper clip or sumpin"??? Still see nothing about how to detach at the bracket but I think you're right about compressing the ears. Lastly, the FSM talks about push nuts and throwing them out and using new ones. I don't have any push nuts. Thinking I can reuse the old ones??? Opinion?
That cable connection on the bracket looks like the push detents are top and bottom. Small channel locks instead of straight pliers to squeeze it then a big flathead to push it out with the other hand. The connection at the back side of the throttle valve cable looks like the same kind of connection as TV cable but it would pull toward the firewall to come off instead of the other way. Take more pics when you get the parts in this looks interesting.

Here's the Ebay ad with pics. Pretty good pics actually.
