Help! (I'd like your input please)
I don't know much about cars and it would help if I could get someone's opinion, so I know where to start. I have a 2000 Dodge Durango and I've noticed that its leaking transmission fluid and I don't know if this makes sense but when I change gears, it sputters? (I'll be going from reverse to drive and when I change gears it jerks.) I hope this makes sense and someone could help me out. Thanks!

Yeah you need to get underneath the D and tell us where the leak is coming from. if it is in between the engine and the tranny you are looking at having a shop pull the tranny to replace the main seal. If it is coming from the pan take it into a shop and have them do a trans servicing. If it is coming out at the driveshaft then you will have to replace the that seal. If you have the 5.9 have them adjust the bands as well. Hopefully for your sake it is a pan leak since that can be taken care of with a regular servicing. One more thing, MAKE SURE THEY USE ATF+4 OR YOU WILL HAVE BIG ISSUES.

It all depends on which seal it is. The main will cost you a couple hundred I would imagine. The rear would cost a little less. They should only have to pull the driveshaft to get to. The pan would be part of a normal servicing as they have to drop it to let out the oil anyway. I'm not sure on that rate but it's probably gonna run you a little under $100. I do all of my own work so long as I have the time so I don't get price quotes too often. Look around online for firestone coupons on the servicing though I've had great experiences with them.

X2 Everything MeanGreen said, or ever says.
If getting a service, never have them flush the transmission on high miles. make sure you be real care full with the truck and try to have a real technician look at it as soon as possible to diagnose what your getting into. No use letting the transmission get worse, the sooner the better, wouldnt want to have to buy a new one.
