Default 99 Durango Ignition switch or linkage

My neighbor just called with an issue on her Durango. The ignition switch shut truck off but wouldn't remove key or start in park. I physically tugged wheel R&L and nothing changed removing key until moved gear selector down to neutral and back into park. Key then removed but truck won't start in Park, only Neutral. My thoughts were a linkage problem but not knowing anything about this model my guess is the switch. Anyone else experience this problem? She's headed off to town shopping and hopefully won't be calling me stranded. LOL

Beyond Hope?????.......... LOL

Most likely the switch or the rod actuator. Removal of the switch is needed for further analysis.

Default correction to model year 1996

well it appears the problem persists. haven't heard from neighbor all this time thinking it was repaired. But here goes the problem, won't shift manually into park by no means, due to this she parks in neutral with Ebrake. Now when she asked me to take for a spin and check for a noise she hears I discovered the tranny slips from 2nd to drive quite bad. Someone has this buggy chipped out if that means anything and it revs quite high when shifting. Does this sound like trans failure or are there sensors one can scan for trouble codes?

Chipped out? If anything a performance pcm or superchips comp install.
Im leaning more towards a pressure solenoid in the tranny causing late shifts. But its always a safe bet to have the transmission filter replaced aswell bands tightened.
My truck for example of second high
