Is there anyway to have the Jensen UV8 or UV9 work with the dodge durango 2002?

Why exactly would it not work? Isnt the uv8 a pop out screen?
Or are you talking about the use of factory steering controls?

It probably says that it will not fit, since it has a 7" screen, which will probably require cutting to fit the opening. All websites that have a "Will it fit" message for items mean "Will it fit, without any abnormal modifications?". The only reason it would say that, is if it's going to take something other than a installation kit to mount this particular Head Unit. IMO, you will probably just need the UV8 + installation kit, and cut the kit to fit. I have an aftermarket Head Unit in my Durango, and I have a bit on either side I could have cut out to fit something a tad wider.

You could always go with one that actually is a direct fit, if you don't want to go through the trouble of a custom mount job....

Problem is Chrysler and GM installed these socalled 1.5 DIN stereos. There is just not many if any anymore receivers that come in this 1.5 configuration. I have randomly googled for a nice modern 1.5 DIN receiver and as of today, still nothing out there. It's either the traditional 1 DIN or 2 DIN (known as double DIN). Most receivers with big displays on the front facing are DOUBLE DIN units. The big displays design for single DIN will be the retractable type coming out of the receiver when used.

In your situation, a SINGLE DIN modern receiver is all you can go with for your Durango without having to custom retrofit your entire dash to increase the OEM cavity that holds the OEM receiver.

well, I don't know about having to customize the ENTIRE dash, the opening for the 1DIN is almost wide enough as is. The problem with Crutchfield/Bestbuy with all their "will it fit" is that they mean "Will it fit with NO modifications". They claimed that the door speakers I bought wouldn't "fit", but with minor modification, I made them fit perfectly.
