5.9L / 5.2L Question
We aquired a 1999 Dodge Durango SLT with a 5.9L (360). The engine is shot and have a 1999 Dakota 5.2L (318) engine complete with injectors and sensors that is in great shape with only 50,000 miles on it.
I want to install the 318 in the Durango for now, will it work with the Durango as far as manifolds and ECM ect?
In the mean time I am going to rebuild the 360 over the course of the year. My plan is to let the wife drive her new Durango while I have time to rebuild the 360....
I know with GM 350 and 305, they use the same ECM and injectors. The engines are identical on the outside. The difference was in bore ect.
Thanks in advance.

The ECM and wiring will be different and the 5.9 also has a different transmission. Yes you could make it work but it will be more trouble than it is worth plus when the 5.9L goes back in you will have to reverse everything.
I called the dealer and was told both models use the same transmission and ECM. Advance Auto listed the same part number for t converter for both 360 and 318.
I was told to go through with it, it wont effect anything because I have all the sensors for the 318 which connect to the same harness as the 360.

Ya, I also have a 99 Ram SLT with the 360. I installed a set of SLP Headers, high flow cat and a borla custom cat back on it. At times - it flows too good and sets off the check engine light because of a lack of back pressure. Asside from that, I love the 360.
You can put the 5.2L in and use the same "PCM".. it will work just fine. The only real difference between the two is the harmonic balancer, that you will have to change.
So NO it would not be any real trouble to swap them.

The 5.2 I have has everything, even the hermonic balancer. Its complete with all accessories, injectors, distributer, throttle body and all sensors. That being said, I can just swap out engines correct?
