Yes there will be some moderation of the valve body so have you local shop install it with a service (fluid/filters). Ensure they only use ATF+4. Have them take a look in your trans to make sure it looks good enough for a shift kit.

Hydra,

what is the difference between the two kits. i was looking at some pages on the internet, and it looks like a pretty simple job to swap out some of the parts.

is there anything on my tranny that needs to be adjusted or tightened, that i can do myself?

Your transmission has no adjustments to be made. Here is some instructions on the kit and you can decide if you want to do it yourself. Click on this link.

that is all simple to do. i have been in there before. i just did not know what the difference is for both kits. does one do something the other does not? i can replace the seals, valves, resisters, etc... for hte kit, thats really not hte issue. i just want to make sure i am getting the right kit for the application.

i just need something that will firm up the tranny shifts for towing my new trailer.

Do as Hydra said...go to the Transgo website and look up the SK®45RFE kit. That is the kit you will need. The one on Ebay IS NOT the kit you want. The instructions I posted is for the older kit and the one Hydra posted is the new improved kit. These kits will not give you the neck snapping, tire chirping shifts but will firm up the shifts better than stock.

right, i just want firmer shifts for towing or for it to hold a gear while towing.

does anyone know what the upgraded kit has added? is it the same procedures as the older kit? i like doing a lot of things myself, as i dont trust most places to work on my stuff. they know less than i usually do.

i dont mind paying for something if it is over my head though.

It contains the new 545RFE trans parts (2004 and up Durangos and 2002 and up Jeeps). Also the newer HEMI is backed with it.

I don't know what differences on install there is between the old and newer kits other than the additional parts that should be there for the 545RFE. Most likely just 1 or 2 additional parts or something of that measure.

Further, I don't know what the Reprogram Kits are other than maybe new parts for an old kit.....IDK

It does have instructions and there are techs you can talk to as well. Call and talk to them and post your results of the conversation.

Hi All! New to this forum, and reading through this thread. I've got a 98 Durango 5.9l 4x4. I looked at the tag in the glove box as someone indicated, but couldn't identify from that what gearing my D has. I'm looking to buy an ultralite toy hauler, so something in the 4000lb range dry, probably closer to 6000 loaded. All of the advice on trans and oil coolers, is great. Shift kits too... any advise on what shift kit I'd need?

What I'm REALLY looking for, though, is guidance on the front brake upgrade to the larger 03/04 Durango brake setup. I can't seem to find a write-up or parts list on what's needed for this upgrade and don't want to go into it blind.

Any guidance would really be appreciated!
