switching to synthetic will increase the chance of oil leaks, but you should still be able to switch if you would like to, in the long run your engine will benefit from the switch

Yes I used +4. And replaced both filters.

I have not looked in side the eng but when I looked at the cap it was covered in yellow foam and another time black gook.

The PCV was changed and sparks are new.

that is normal for the 4.7 and IS NOT SLUDGE, its just moisture that "boils" out of the oil and builds up there (the highest point inside the engine) my truck gets that every winter, just wipe it out before you add more oil

It happens because air is mixing with the water. Many in the know call it "snot". There is a Service TSB on how to fix/prevent it. With that said... IT IS NOT SLUDGE!

Here are a few snot photos of the snot (NOTE: not Sludge!) problem on the earlier 4.7s and the TSB to fix it.

Service Bulletin Number: 090100A

CUSTOMER MAY COMPLAIN OF AN OIL EMULSION ACCUMULATION INSIDE THE ENGINE OIL FILL HOUSING

Need to install the following 2 parts
53032126AA Baffle, Oil Fill Housing
53032389AD Cap, Oil Fill Housing

Recommend replacement of the PCV valve as well.

go to the dealer, but print out the tsb before you go and take it with you, then you will have the part numbers ect
