Also, I recently noticed that if I start in first with very light throttle, the tranny lets go of 1st at about 10 mph and 1000 rpm. It'll go up to 1300 or 1400 rpm, then the tranny re-engages for just a second, then it lets go and revs up, then it re-engages… If I give it a touch more throttle, it just accelerates beyond that point and that particular problem is done. It only happens in first, at extremely light throttle, at about 10 mph and 1000 rpm.

Yoy may have a couple of things going on, 1st you could have a sticky valves in the valve body or 2nd the governor solenoid and transducer are sticking.

I just came in from driving it around. I found that if I start in drive and it won`t shift, I can manually go to whatever gear it`s stuck in for a second or 2, then manually upshift and it will work just fine. There was an exception regarding the 2-3 shift, though. One time it did not upshift, so I shifted several times. Then it scared me by letting the engine rev freely, as though the gear had gone out. I shifted into neutral for a few seconds and then back into drive. It then went into gear and worked normally. No slipping. It`s like it became "unstuck" in 2nd and shifted out of gear, but didn`t get into 3rd.

Getting deja vu reading my thread? I've got it on 3 forums, just trying to get as much exposure to as many minds as I can. I'm telling you, the internet is a wonderful thing. What if I had just gone to a trans shop and heard "rebuild"? How would I know any different? I can't count how many times the internet bill has paid for itself, plus.
