Default Cruise control 1998 5.2L Durango

My cruise control will not engage, and it the vehicle had this issue when purchased. The cruise light will turn on and stay on, but it will never engage. I would appreciate any suggestions.

check the connections leading into the cruise servo, i dont have a service manual for your truck so im not sure where it is, im not sure if there is a vacum line on the cruise system for these trucks or not, but check for cracked or open vacum lines too

btw, i hope you did not buy the truck new

Is the cruise servo the same as the speed servo? If so I checked the vacuum from the engine to the speed servo and it was fine. I then removed the cowl plenum to check the vacuum reservoir and one way check valve. Both items check fine. Did I just narrow it down to something in the brakes?

it COULD be a bad break light switch, causing the cruise to kick off immediately, but i would expect you to have brake lights on all the time if that were the case
