no they did make 2wd durangos, but they are rare (at least in my area) just do yourself a favor and crawl underneath the truck and look to see if you have a t-case or not, if so then you need to get it looked at, if not then you could probably just ignore it(unplug the light if you like)
it almost sounds to me like you got a 4x4 and were misinformed about it

My first thought too was maybe i have 4x4 and i dont know it. But ive had the durango about 5 years now and do all my own work on it so ive been under it enough to know its a 2wd. It even sits lower then a normal durango. Maybe ill reset the computer and see if the light stays off and go from there.

FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL
AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, turn the ignition

Not sure what the heck the 4x4 light has to do with the hvac but thanks for the info. There are not many 2wd durangos out there but i love mine. When we bought mine the only thing my wife cared about was that it had to be blue. The car lot had 2 in blue, one had 4x4 and the other had the 5.9, I chose the power.
