Common A/C issues: problems and solutions
I had no heat found the heater core had small leak temp fix with bars leak. I had the hood up checking hose to make sure they were hot. Still no heat then I noticed the ac comp was cycling. I unplugged the ac comp the heat started blow hot. Is the ac comp supposed to cycle with the heat on.

Okay so I tried reading through all of the posts I possibly could but, I could not find anyone with the same issue as I am having.
My 98 Durango, from the moment I bought it two years ago the A/C has been really Crappy. I had the whole system evacuated and re-oiled, Freon (134-a) I believe, and had a dye leak detection done on it as well. Never found anything, and even after having it evacuated etc it still did not work well. I found out that if the temperature outside is below 85F the A/C works decent. I need help BAD! also my compressor seems to work fine, I am not sure if it is suppose to run none stop when I have the A/C on, but it does.
Any help would be great!!!!! I am also new to the Forum!

Does is work better if you're going at highway speeds?
It gets slightly cooler but nothing significant, I also notice that if im going down a dirt road dirt comes through my vents and I see dirt coming from under my glove box on the floor. Its pretty odd, I have had it checked out by two different mechanics and they could not find anything wrong, I have a feeling my condenser is bad?
Airflow through the condenser sounds like a contributing can for here. When I replaced my mechanical fan with an electric one I noticed my a/c working better. In 2000 the added an auxiliary electric fan to help with the a/c. Take the garden hose and try cleaning the fins on the condenser.

I too have a problem with my AC. Take in mind I have absolutely no experience with AC AT ALL. My air was only blowing warm, so I decided go to Autozone, buy one of the DIY cans w/gauge, and recharge it. The guy there told my how many ounces of Freon the truck holds, but told me there was still pressure in the system. I filled it correctly (according to the instructions) and now it blows cold, not very cold, but enough to cool you down. But my main problem is being in Las Vegas where it's been 120 everyday. So now when I run the AC my truck wants to jump way over the 210 mark. I've checked all the coolant stuff, radiator, hoses, only leak I have is a tiny one that loses maybe up to half a jug every few weeks. My uncle told me that I should have "vacuumed" the system first, stating that it is building too much pressure on the motor. Can anyone help?? 1998 5.2L 318 4WD w/rear AC.
I'd get the leak fixed, but that probably isn't making much of a difference at all. I'm going to guess that your temp goes back down once you get up to speed? The problem is that the factory mechanical fan isn't enough to keep everything cool with the a/c on when at idle or slow moving traffic, especially when it's that hot, which is why they added the auxiliary electric fan in 2000. I was in the same situation myself (the temps do get up pretty high (110+) here in SC) so I went ahead and completely replaced the mechanical fan with an electric one, but you'll probably at least need to add an auxiliary fan that comes on with the a/c.
