Common A/C issues: problems and solutions
I actually figured out what the problem is, being my first time, I completely blew off the fact that I needed to bleed the AC system. So I filled it just to realize I need to completely empty it and start over. Oh well, live and learn, plus I'm young. But thank you to everyone for their help!
So i plan on replacing my compressor, condensor, accumulator, and expansion valve this weekend. I know the mechanics of changing everything out and i think i have done enough research to pump the system down, basically pull it down to 28-30 hg’s of vacuum for about 10 min and let it sit for 10 to verify no leaks. Now, how are you guys adding 134a back into the system? I have a set of gauges, but was planning on using the little cans from the autoparts store. From everything i have read, you are suppose to charge from the low side, but those hook up to the high side. Am i missing something or just overcomplicating things?
Thanks in advance
Nevermind, i was confused on which port what high and which port was low. I should be good now.
I do have one other question, my compressor never cycles on or off, reguardless of the outside temp, should i change my refrigerant pressure switch? When i put the guages on my system this past weekend my low side pressure was way, way high but my compressor never cycled (never has since i bought the truck).
Thanks in advance

Problem- Idles up & down when AC is engaged, but idles fine when it's not on.
Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor a few weeks ago and it was fine for a few weeks. Took a road trip from FL to TN started acting up again. Any ideas?

I am very grateful to have this site. After an all nighter reading every possible a/c thread and watching every video specific to my caravan sport 03 110kmile it is now up and running. It was a $40 mistake on my part, (installed a tranny cooler) disconnected the wrong line or maybe not, i had to somehow get the a/c condensor loose so that i could attach the tranny cooler from behind, end up letting out what little was left of over ten years of use.
So, I thought simple fix, get the trans cooler installed and head over to the a/c pro shop and have them do their thing. They get half way through, pull the remaining gas, oil system, began charge up and the machine kicks back a fail. Me, not a a/c guy I'm thinking what the heck, the a/c gas leaked out, just put it back in.
So then i get to surfing the net. Find out, about having to jump the compressor, possible replace rcv's, driers, expansions valves, clutch and compressor replacement, etc... that when all said and done installing a new a/c kit will take me a weekend of labor and around 4-5 bennies including the vacuum pull and recharge. Unless I attempt to nickle and dime repair each part that I think might need to be replaced. Another 5 more bills if i'm lucky enough to find someone enthusiastic and experienced enough to tackle it. Upfront, that's a grand right there. Or, alternatively, try out one of this frowned upon (for what ever reason) over the counter spray and go refills. Even at $40/yr to keep it cool, if I get another five more years out of this ride that's still a no brainer.
I need to remember to keep it simple. After pulling an all nighter of research including the read through here, then simply charging up the system with the can spray. I am reminded of that.
Thanks,
Olajoe

I recently bought my wife a 2001. I live in a region that doesn't get very hot very often, until recently. This is when she told me that when she turns the A/C on it will blow like its supposed to, until she exceeds about 50mph. At that point it all but stops blowing until she reaches under 50mph. Local mechanics are stumped. But this only happens to the front seat vents, the ones for the back seat are fine.
So after checking out what she told me I decided to check the heater, as we live in a place that has hellish winters. I found that the heater does not work at all, meaning that it does not blow any type of heat or warmth. I've tried looking everywhere online and all the local shops for help, but to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any help and wisdom that anyone has.

I have a 04 ram 1500(5.7) Theres a problem with my compressor but not sure what it is. The black ring by the compressor pulley is shredded, and it seem like my compressor not working all. What could be the issue?
