Were you able to swap the valve and gaskets without breaking open any of the spring lock couplings?

Yes, just did mine a couple of weeks ago. It is a little cumbersome, but just take your time. Removing the air box makes it a lot easier. I put a little bit of vasaline on the flat gasket that goes between the expansion valve and the evaporator to hold it in place during assembly.

Local mechanics are stumped. But this only happens to the front seat vents, the ones for the back seat are fine.

So after checking out what she told me I decided to check the heater, as we live in a place that has hellish winters. I found that the heater does not work at all, meaning that it does not blow any type of heat or warmth. I've tried looking everywhere online and all the local shops for help, but to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any help and wisdom that anyone has.
So there isn't any moving air coming out of the vents? Sounds like a problem with the blower motor to me.

Might want to try the ram section for that.

I bought a new resistor due to my low speed not working. (works on all other speeds) It cuts off the a/c also. Still have to install it though.

I also took it to them because they put on a new AC clutch last summer. Any ideas what might create the "Fog Horn" sound??

I too have the Foghorn A/C. I bought my 2002 Durango new in March of
2002. I have had the noise from day one. I took it to the dealer as soon as I noticed the sound about 5 days after I bought it. They ran the truck for about 20 minutes they said and it never made a noise, So I show up take it around the block get the service rep and it starts making the noise. He wants a specialist to come from Dodge and look at it but I could never get enough time off to get it done. So for 11 years I have been just turning off the A/C when I stop for more than a few seconds (signal lights) it only makes the noise at idle and it only makes the noise with the AC on and it really does sound like a foghorn.
The A/C system has been recharged 1 or 2 times since new, as people always say that is the cause and it never fixes it.
This is a single unit A/C with separate driver passenger controls, 4.7 SXT with the tow package. the electric fan comes on when I turn on the A/C.
This is also one of the best working A/C's I have had, except for the noise at idle. The Durango is just now hitting 150,000 miles. I was hoping the A/C would break before now and I could start replacing some parts and eventually figure it out.
The one thing suggested was a possible orifice tube problem might cause this?? It only makes the noise after the A/c has been run for a mile or so and then the engine drops to idle for a few seconds. Outside temp does not affect it, Yes I have turned on the a/c at 35 degrees to check and it does it at 110 too.

OK here's a ? on a problem I haven't seen anyone else having. I thought the heater core on my 2000 5.2l Durango was partially restricted, but upon further investigation it appears that the a/c blows cold air as soon as the climate control is activated regardless of what position the selector switch is on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!

Could you clarify what exactly you're asking, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Thanks.

First position on climate control - max a/c, blows cold air. Second Position - norm a/c, blows cold air. Third position, blows cold air, and so on. If the heater is on, a/c is crankin'...

The first three positions (max a/c through bi-level) and the defrost positions should all be running the a/c. The head only setting and feet only setting should be the only ones that the a/c is running on. Check if the a/c compressor is coming on with the head and feet only settings, if it is it could be a bad switch or relay. If it's not and you're still getting cold air then your heater core might be blocked.

It's definitely blowing cold air on all positions. When the block is all the way hot it manages to overcome the a/c to provide lukewarm air so the heater core is functioning. I figured it must be a switch; I just wasn't sure where to start looking. Thanks for your time, btw!!!!
