I found my D on Boston Craiglist listed as "needs to be towed". I looked at it the night Irene hit so our meeting was very wet....I looked it over for a bit, jumped it and did a koeo and koer and wound up buying it right away, even though I didn't really get a very good look. They did a ton of work and just ran out of money, plus their mechanic is an idiot. My son and I went back on monday and put a fresh battery in, checked all the fluids and tires and left. The maiden voyage was a drive from Dorchester to Gloucester, about 55 miles total. It had a fresh but incomplete tune up,new tps,new tires, new brakes incl calipers and rotors, new upstream o2 and a lot more....They flipped when I drove it away. $800. It needs a vss and I'm gonna replace the intake gaskets (vac leak but no codes),a front right hub and general maint, tranny service, diff fluids etc etc. All I have is a P0500 from the vss. The whole running problem was from a weak battery.Disconnected the vanity mirrors with broken covers and no more battery drain It's like I bought 4 new BFG All Terrains and got a free Durango.Heading out right now to pick up my parts and get to work on it....Loved this truck right away, screw the mileage,I'll pay it....What do you think, did I do ok??
Oh yeah,M Shark ...I had a Rolling Rock and a burger at Wally's sunday, still packed this time of year.....

I bought my '99 Durango 5.2L 4x4 in Oct. of 2010. It had 150k miles and was fully loaded. Had a dent in the passenger side rear but its okay. I paid $2800. I'm at 172k miles now and I'm having my first problem with it. I believe the Ball Joints are going.

Edit : Ball joints are fine. I was told by 2 different "Mechanics" that it was first ball joints, then wheel bearings. The both overlooked the fact that an alignment bolt had came loose and caused everything to shift.

Well Here we go I will start with my '03. I purchased this one in february 2007 while I was home on leave from Iraq. I went to the dealership expecting to buy a Chevrolet Avalanche. I had a price range of $15000. I drove a ****ty '05 Escape ($14,000), a 2003 Jeep Liberty rough ride and very small ($16300), a 2002 GMC Jimmy no leg room and high miles at 165000miles($16750), and my 2003 Durango SLT 4x4 with 59,000miles loaded minus the heated seats, cd changer and sun roof. All said and done I drove it away for $14,500. By april 2012 this will be paid off.

The second one I purchased here in Germany from a young soldier who did not want to mess with it. It is a 2000 Durango SLT 2x4 with pretty much the same options as the '03 and a whopping 150,362 miles on it for a mear $200.00 dollars. I got very lucky on this deal because it had a brand new in the package JVC 12" sub, a crossover box with twin rockford fosgate punchseries xls 10" subs, a crunch blackmaxx 1200 watt 4 channel amp, and a JVC am/fm cd deck. I am selling the equipment for $650.00. This means that he paid me $450.00 to take the D off of his hands. I have only put a new battery in it and need to get the left head light adjusted. This is all that needs done to pass the German inspection for registration.
I LOVE THEM BOTH AS IF THEY WERE FAMILY.

The day after Christmas '10 my 1990 Pathfinder seized up on me on the freeway on my way to work. Four days later we went to the stealership to check out an '02 JGC but by the time we got there, they had sold it! About to leave the lot when my wife pointed out the D... wasn't much a fan at first, even after the test drive, but I was in need of a vehicle right away so we took it. So my 2002 SXT was $6400 out the door with 124+K on the odometer... nine months later and loving it more than I did that day for sure!

Well...thought I would throw mine in here since I just got it!
98 4x4 SLT, auto, AWD, leather, infinity sound, 147k on the odo, tow hitch, 5.9L, overhead, rear air(actually works too!) 3rd seat(in storage since its just me and the wife. When I get it tomarrow...It will have new rotors, pads, calipers, tir rods, ball joints, and brake fluid. LoL.
After everything was said and done I paid $4k out the door...I think it is a steal personally. It has some scratches, and the drivers seat has a hole in it, and is missing one fog light. But is a beast! And am very excited to get it fixed up and ready for winter!
Even with a crazy bad alignment, crap ball joints and tire rods I sill averaged 14mpg around town! Cant wait to see what happens when it is all fixed lol

My parents bought my 99 5.2 SLT 4x4 when it was a year old with around 10,000 miles for $16,000. They gave it to me when I turned 16 with 138,000miles on it. Now it has a little over 145,000miles on it. It had a freeze plug (one of the two under the transmission bell housing) go out 2 years ago. Earlier this year the flexplate cracked patially through and my dad and I just replaced it 2 weeks ago. It had no damage when we got it and now it only has 1 small dent on the passenger door from a rock that kicked up from something. A year ago I got hit by some idiot who didn't yield to me in a traffic circle, she claimed she didn't see it and the cop laughed as he wrote her a ticket. I ended up getting a busted headlight, a dent in the fender, and a nicked rim, while she got her whole front bumper ripped off her santa fe (gotta love metal). Anyway, me and my dad have been doing the maitnence on it for years, and I hope to keep it going for as long as possible.

In case anyone needs more reason not to buy a hyundai, here you go:
