Default K & N Air Intake Kit

Just put a K&N intake kit on my sons Durango (2001, SLT 4.7L) hoping to get him more gas mileage .

My question is will it help him and what would be the next stage?

Thanks

your answer is NO it will likely NOT help him

the way to get better gas mileage out of these trucks is simple, put a brick under the gas pedal, otherwise, shy of major money you arent going to do anything that will actually improve the gas mileage, especially on the 4.7 (they do pretty well from the factory)

LOL ROTFL at the response SS.

+1 SS.

OP, the K&N has just increased HP thus directly caused your son's foot to get heavier.

Keep your sons truck OEM and make him pay for the fuel and that will slow him down and keep good gas mileage.....LMAO

you sir, are doing it wrong, i consistently get 16-17 around town and 18-20 on the highway and i got the 4.7 w/ 4wd and i drive it like i stole it, the only thing going for me is that its bone stock, and the maintenance is very well kept up with

lucky , i need to do an full tune up though so that could be alot of the reason why. 17MPG, FREAKIN UNBELIVABLE! Are there tune up kits for our cars online? btw i got 4x4 to, if i could get 15mpg i would be an happy camper. I also keep overdrive locked out, should i not be doing that unless i wanna race?

nope that is fine around town (once you get over 40-45 i would unlock it and let overdrive engage)

i actually do the same thing, i lock out OD around town until i get on the highway, then i let it go

also what psi are your tires at? do you do alot of idling? (if i think of anything else that eats gas ill post up asking)

Mine shows 22-23 on the lie-o-meter going 65mph. The one thing that I really noticed for mpg increase is from the synthetic and new muffler. I would like to get K&N but not for that much $$$
