I just signed up but we bought our 98 durango used back in Feb of this year. We have loved our car but today when we went to start it it acted like the battery was dead so we jumped it and it started but then as soon as it would idle down it dies. Now that is happening every time it starts. It will start right up most of the time but then when it idles it will just die. Does anyone have any idea we are hoping maybe just a battery problem but idk. Has anyone had any problems like this..

Sounds weird, but pull the battery and have it bench tested at NAPA, or Advance Auto, or Auto Zone. U then eliminate or confirm your battery condition. Do you have a battery charger?

i would start by replacing the battery, they will do this when the battery gets weak (yes it can be weak even if it has enough juice to turn the truck over just fine), the other place to look is at the IAC motor, but it is more likely to be a bad battery in my experience

when it starts does the battery light come on in the guage cluster? but yes i would have the battery tested, if you take it to oriely's or advance they can check the whole charging system. just drive it up there and they can check it for free and it will let you know . but more than likely its just a bad battery

Yeah dont even worry about getting it tested, just replace the battery and be done with your issues.

why would you go spend money without being sure it was the battery, thats just stupid.. have it tested for free and be sure before you go spend 100 bucks on a battery . my battery went bad 3 weeks ago and i didnt have any of them problems . its just better to be sure before just going and spending money.

because, i have seen batteries PASS the tests, and still cause these problems, the battery test are NOT 100% and with these computers the battery needs to be better than most cars require, is it obnoxious? yes, but its a fact of life
