Default HID Install Questions.

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango. I bought a HID kit from eBay. The install was easy. With the car off and the light switch turned on the lights worked fine. As soon as i started the car the lights would not work at all. I then took it to my friends shop and he "Ghetto" rigged it to work with some relay's and a fuse. They never worked good, when i turned the lights on one would work and the other would only work if i turned the light off and on real quick. My question is the kit supposed to work just by plugging it in normal or is the "Ghetto Rig" way the only way to do it. My passenger side stopped working all together and the bulb and ballast are working fine i tested them. I went back to normal bulbs for the time being. Any help would be great.

I've had a couple problems with "cheap " ebay hid kits before. both times it turned out to be bad connections in the hid wiring pigtails.

The HID's work they just don't work right when you plug them in direct. They only worked when the guy rigged it with 2 relay's and a 20 amp fuse. Weird all my other cars worked plug and play.

they SHOULD be plug and play should NOT need to be ghetto rigged, you got a bad set or a bad/cheap adapter from ebay

I'm not sure it's the kit. They work fine when the truck is not running. As soon as i start the car they don't work or start flashing. I really don't remember if they turn off all together or flash,it was about 2 years ago when I installed them. I am now back to running regular bulbs.I will take a look at it this weekend. It's cold in Jersey

Do the Hid work Good? Are they a lot brighter. I need something bright enough to spot deer in the woods before they run in front of me.

Um, you should probably find a different buddy, preferably one who actually knows how electricity works, and have him fix it.

Your friend wired them wrong. Plain and simple.

@OP: Do you have daylight running lights? If so, you need to contact the ebay seller to see if they have a bypass for DRLs. I think your buddy has the right idea but I'd go with a professional install if the DRLs are the problem. IIRC, DRLs are lower in power to run the regular headlights but not as bright as regular night time lights.
