Default Tranny issue

Had 89 4x4 5.2 since Aug.
Had my Mopar loving tranny guy service everything 4 months ago.

NO problems until Sat.

Would not shift in 2 or 4x into 2nd.

Pulled into near by parking lot put in park and started out again.

This time it auto shifted just fine.

Got to my destination and happened again.

Shifted into neutral and back to D, started auto shifting again.

It was not cold by Cleveland standards at all on Sat.

Gonna call my tranny guy but what some feed back here.

Thanks.

Either that or possible 1-2 shift solenoid is hung up.

Sounds very similar to what my 98 has been doing.

Tranny shop was pretty confident that the governor pressure sensor and governor solenoid were the most likely culprits based on what he's seen with other dodge transmissions behaving the same.

My suggestion would be to get it back to the tranny shop ASAP before any additional damage is done.

Did it fix anything after you brought the fluid up to full?

Drove a little today. Just about 4 mile and it seems much better. No difficulty shifting.
Crisper and earlier shift points.
Always check the obvious first.

Will scan tomorrow with my tranny guy anyway.

I have seen this before, the user (Kensia) had the same issue. His transmission level needed to be just above the max level (after hot and engine running in Neutral before checking......BTW) and his would do the same thing. I think his was a built transmission (from Dan at www.thefastman.com , but I can't remember.

Overdue update.
Towed the D to my tranny guy. He had the 1-2 sensor replaced.
Got it back 3-25.
No more issues.
Code for O2 sensor also disappeared.
Is there a common ground for the O2 and 1-2 shift sensor?

Not that I'm aware of. It's possible when they replaced the 1-2 sensor it bumped the O2 sensor and knocked something back into place that should have been.

It's also possible that the code was extremely intermittent and evened itself out and was running stable long enough for it to clear itself out. Glad to know things are going swell and hopefully we can help you out in the future with any problems you may have. Actually, hopefully you don't have any more problems in the future.

Happy trails!!!
