I have a little puddle of coolant on the rubber floor mat on the passenger side of my D. Where can I look for this to be coming from? 4.7 2000

 

I dont want to scare you but it looks suspiciously like heater core...IndyD will probably chime in soon with 2000 specifics but expect a dashboard removal to access....While you are at it and to avoid removing dashboard again I would recommend changing the EVAP core at the same time. A little more now or a lot more later.

If it needs to be changed better to do it now in the spring when heater use is reduced. Do not ignore it for too long though.

 

Ya, I figured that was gonna be the issue......heat was moderate at best this winter.

 

yup definitely heater core, either get ready to sell your weekend, or bend over and surrender your wallet, as stated above i would do the evap at the same time to save having to take it apart again later.

 

Bring plenty of shop towels because the onside of your dash is gonna be soaked! Same thing happened to my buddies Ram and we spent an hour just cleaning up when it blew.

 

Happened to me too, deffinatly heater core. The dash comes out mostly in one piece, just watch out when you pull out the air box it will be filled with coolant waiting to be spilled all under your carpeting, four bolts on the engine bay side of the firewall and that box will drop. I did my evap coil too, then all your a/c leaks will be under the hood from then on.

 

Well this is something that I will not be attempting myself so I guess it's time to lighten the wallet that is already as light as a feather.........

I will take the advice and do the evap at the same time.

 

I know someone who had it done at a shop, altogether it cost them over $600 so be prepared. It's about a 5.5 hour job that they spent on it + parts. The evap will run you about $60-$80 and the heater core should be a little cheaper than that, not including the shop markups on those parts. Good Luck

 

Yep book it 5 hours on the job and be sure they replace EVAP while in there so you ain't gotta worry about that down the road.

 

That's 5.5 hours with experienced tech (possibly 2) that is not interrupted..in reality closer to a full day and probably something you want to schedule and see if they can start ordering at least the heater core and evap core in advance. One less thing to be awaiting parts for.
