It has been my past experience that a clooged radiator will cause overheating while moving not sitting still. If it is getting warm sitting still it is a fan issue of some sort.

Yeah? it does sound like a fan issue. but remember i've been having problems before and now this detail is a recent one.

this makes it seem like there are multiple problems? a bad fan clutch possible and a leak somewhere sucking in air but no noticeable spills or small puddles of coolant.

I might just have to slowly save up and start replacing things until the problem is solved?

Are you still loosing coolant? The next time you are messing with the truck cold grab the shaft to the fan with the motor off and see if you can feel any play. If there is you may be in need of a water pump. Until you figure it out keep an eye on your coolant level.

Thats interesting biff85ta, how does that show signs of a bad water pump? and if it is a bad water pump shouldn't it over heat more often?

I just feel lost to the fact that is over heating is only at certain times and not every time i drive it. Well the getting hot when idling after she is warm is regularly happening. possibly started as a small problem and getting worse? thats why there are more odd things happening?

josh you can check the fan clutch yourself and you can check the water pump with it on still... how easy can you spin the fan? grab the fan and try rocking it back and forth... does it rock at all or is it pretty solid.

Well i grabbed the fan and tried rocking it back and forth. Its pretty solid. I tried rocking it from a fin and from the middle base connecting to the water pump. And when i grabbed the top fin and spun it, it was fairly free spinning. I mean its not making a full rotation but it turns a good 90-120 degree's depending on how much i try to turn it.

Oh and the overflow is still just past the full line.

Another question guys, if i take the rad cap off when cold, turn the engine on and turn the heat of full blast til she gets up to temp and notice inside the rad hose where the cap comes off that the coolant isn't flowing what would that mean? You should be able to see the coolant flowing right?

the coolant will only flow when the stat opens (when the engine is all the way up to temperature) so if its not flowing right away dont worry about it.

the fan should spin less than 1/2 a turn by hand, mine only spins about the distance from one fan blade to the next after letting go of it so yours is a little loose but i dont think enough to be the problem.

josh take a picture of the 'box' on the top of the radiator for me bc i have an idea but being unsure of wha tyou are referring to exactly makes it kind of difficult to be sure.

OK, I'll check the coolant flow. See if thats normal.

And the fan is less than half a full turn like you described. mine made about a quarter to a third full turn.

And yeah I'm not sure about the black box its what i read on Edmunds reviews. Somebody said that the auxiliary pump is the black box on the top left corner of the rad. I'll see if i can get a good picture. would the top left be drivers side or passenger side? guess it depends what you consider which way you look at it from.

yes it would matter where youa re looking at it from, that is why when talking about cars i either use drivers side/passenger side, or specify where im standing in reference to the vehicle. and honestly i dont see any small box on top of the radiator on my truck, mind linking to the article?
