Need a scanner capable or reading the tcm codes, if someone could kindly point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Stuck in limp mode, replaced relays checked ground wire and all connections tried* clearing the computer codes it still persist. Its a 2000 4x4 4.7 101,000 miles, I know its probably the solenoid pack ive replaced these in others, but want to get a code reader anyway so, figured now is a good time. Not looking for a Cadillac just enough to get the job done.

Also this was just purchased, code popped after attempting to shift into 4 lo, (it has part time 4wd) and putting into drive easing on the gas the 4wd selector popped out of 4lo and boom the dreaded limp mode/p0700. 4 hi and 2wd are perfect i assume this is a linkage issue as 4lo works when you push forward on the lever??? It hits the edge of the console before it fully engages and not applying pressure to the selector is comes back out of 4lo.

 

I bought a cheap chinese $15 bluetooth OBD II adapter on ebay, and a $5 app on my smartphone that works with the adapter. The adapter works great and I have had no problems at all with it. If you have a smartphone I'd say that this is the most cost effective way to go. I know that there are windows programs that can connect to bluetooth OBD adapters so if you have a laptop with bluetooth you could also use that with the adapter.

 

So any obd2 scanner will pull the specific codes from the tcm?

 

I would think so, You can go to advance and get them to read it with a OBD II scanner on almost any car that needs a OBD II scanner, so I would think you can use any scanner, of course some are better than others.

 

it was my understanding that you couldnt find out the specific codes under a p0700 from the tcm with any old obd2 scanner, I may be mistaken but ill find out soon enough, i overnight ed one of those Bluetooth readers, and bought torque im sure ill use them anyway, but it will be disappointing if it just spits out the same p0700 code i already know. So what i am getting at is will it read the codes contained in the tcm that is triggering the p0700

 

as far as I know any error code from the pcm or tcm is delivered to the OBD II port and should be able to be read by any old reader. Torque is the app I have on my phone and I really like it. Anyway, the reader you ordered should give you the actual code.

as for your transfer case issue, I think that you are right about the linkage being the problem. I know they changed the shifter in 2000 but if its the same underneath as the 98 and 99 should should be able to loosen a nut on the linkage and adjust it

I don't think you'd want one after you saw the price. They cost over 3 grand

 

the OBDII will NOT read tcm or abs codes you need a DRBIII to do that, the OBDII only reads and resets PCM codes, some of the tranny codes are tripped in the PCM with more specifics, but not most.

 

yea, you will need the DRB-III scanner to read those codes. The cheapest I have seen them was about $3,000-$3,500. But if you find a decent quality one cheaper, PLEASE let me know!
