im going to do the test on it for the 4.7 bc of the noisey lash adjusters on cold starts, for the 5.2 and 5.9 id simply stick with what dodge recommends (5w or 10w)

(I usually get the black boxed Bosch filter for $5) Remove the oil filter first then remove the oil from the pan and let her drip. Now replace the filter and add the whole 5 quart bottle you bought at Wal-Mart for about $25 bucks. Now you should be full, however you might need an extra 1/2 quart, at least I know many 5.9L's that like that extra 1/2 quart. At this point you should be full and mark your dipstick.

I like to check the oil first thing in the morning, but it is supposed to be warm I believe.

lvphotos<----If you have a leak then fix it. Durango's aren't "drippers". Dripping gaskets are because of lack of maintenance.
I have fat fingers it is 10w30. We run Lucas in Trophy Trucks to stock. The Gold Fram is 10 micron. The Durangos I have seen except for the 4.7 have the
the same rear seal leak. Told that the intake plenum is the problem. So the two out of 5 Durangos I know of are 4.7 the rest leak that included moms and girlfriends with less than 50k when it started, mine had 50k at time of purchase. Two shops I deal with see it all the time. We run T-30 Shell turbine oil year round on gas turbines at power plants we service. Run time is till the turbine is torn down for maintenance.

Actually yeah, BMW has an oil you're supposed to use. My uncle had an 01 740il, we put amsoil in it cause amsoil actually exceeded bmw specs (as do others like mobile 1 probably does), it still ran like a charm. Also the nearest bmw service center is in Minneapolis MN, 7hrs away

yea $100 charge, and the dealer wouldnt do it under the maintance contract unless the computer told them it was withing 500 miles of needing it (the computer runs anywhere from 15k-25k miles btwn changes)

i was under the impression that BMW used Euro-spec synthetic oils which you could not buy equivalent or better here in the US. My father also claims there is no oil drain plug on the X5 (i havnt had a chance to look for myself yet)

Those x5s are a b**** i went to go tow one off the interstate due to a flat tire and no spare, he didnt have his tow hoow (which you arent supposed to us anyways due to the bumper can and WILL be pulled off that way, and there was nothing but plastic underneath, never touched x5s again with a flat bed, i had to drive it up set it in park and set the emergency brake, since then however they have started make flatbed wheel straps for that reason, but i went into the medium duty wheel lift after that, i like the looks of beamers but they are just a freaking pain
