Default Need help ASAP

So spring is almost here and my 2002 Durango sxt 4x4 is screwing up!

The cv joints are both going and when I pulled the passenger side off the axle shaft was rounded smooth! Am I able to just pull both cv joints off for now and leave them off? I don't need the 4x4 and won't have the money to fix for a couple weeks and other vehicle is already in shop!

Need answers ASAP need to get it fixed

Oh ****!!!!

Well what about the insert collar on the diff end? What I am talking about is the little collar that the axle shaft plugs into and snaps when you replace the CV Half Shaft?

If it is good maybe everything else is ok and you will need to do a flush on the front differential. If it is bad then you are looking at a junk yard or dealer. It really is just a collar and snaps in before the axle pushes in and snaps in.

Dont forget the stub shaft that goes through the wheel bearing assembly. The nut on the end is to hold the shaft in place PLUS preload the the bearing assembly. With out the stub shaft in place, the wheel bearing WILL seperate. DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT THE CV IN PLACE!!

moabax has a very good point, i wouldnt drive w/o the cv in place because of the bearing on the outside, as well as the chance of loosing the clip hydra is talking about, fix it right or you and your wallet will regret it later.

Just double checked my 4X4 front wheel bearing rebuild pictures, where I tried to rebuild one and failed miserably.

Moabax is correct, however incorrect at the same time. It is held together with the axle nut. However as for "Bearing Preload" comment, that is incorrect because there is an internal shaft that is "fixed" and the bearings are pressed on, therefore a "Bearing Preload" is not used, only clearance on the main shaft. Besides that, even if there where a bearing preload it would be in Inch lbs, not Foot lbs.

The correct specification for that main axle nut is (180 ft. lbs.)

If I'm looking at it correctly, that is simply a shaft that you can pull out and replace. When I replaced CV shaft, it actually came out with the CV axle (rust locked).

Are you 100% sure this is the CV axle shaft?
I have replaced CV axles before but none looked like this.
