Yeah, Ebay #120831410351

All double DIN are the same size. Its an industry set standard and cannot vary. Just like all single DINs are the same size.

Says it comes with steering remote but to be honest, Ive had one which was the one I linked above and it was not only a PITA to program but was chit IMO. Ill take my wireless remote any day of the week.

As for that double DIN listed above, Ive had a few that I bought and resold and none ever had any issues. I used one for a bench model for a long time

Once the cut is made and sanding is done, it either has to be wrapped or painted. There is no way to perfectly match the burl grain. If your entire piece is wood trim then it will need to be done like i did that Dakota bezel because again, the burl cannot be reproduced as it is molded into the plastic

I have seen pics of ppl doing it to all plastic dashes, and they look great, the only thing i can see being a problem is when you have to cut the so called wood trim, not being able to plainly see where the cuts happened. Without restaining or paint said trim.

No. Youre missing the point. The current opening is wider than a double din which is the same width as the single din in the pics. So to get a true and professional fit, the sides need to be filled in and covered. So when that happens there is not a way to reproduce the OEM grain, thus why it needs to be painted or wrapped. Look at my pics on FB

That is exactly why I do not like flip outs on the 1st generation interior Durangos. The screen is blocking my air vents. Not an issue if it was the 2nd generation interior where the center vents got separated. I prefer the built in 7 inch screen.

Even if you can provide a double din cut out on the dash trim. You will have to modify the hole itself to house the double din unit. Some cuts will need to be made height wise to fit a double din unit. But that is the easiest part!

But still, after seeing the price of double din units, I can get a really decked out tablet. I am sure I can find a tablet that can fit the oem 1.5 din opening. I can glue some mounts behind the trim to hold the tablet in place.

The problem with doing a tablet is the sound output and control. Unless you have one with HDMI out, you are stick with a 3.5mm head phone jack which is no where near the best signal output nor does it carry the line voltage needed to get a good amplified signal and it does need to be amplifed AND converted. Try to amplify a poor signal and its going to sound bad.

True, but I am not looking for really high quality sound. Just good full range sound using a high quality amp and good shielded audio cables.

I am currently using my 5 inch phone as my mini tablet hooked up to my audio system in my truck and the sound is as good as my audio deck when watching movies/music from my phone.

I just don't see why I have to pay $300-$600 for a good upper end double din deck when I can pay possibly less than half that to get a high end tablet that can do the same and much much more.

Most tablets as well as my phone has HDMI output capability. But I haven't really seen any amps in autos that can accept HDMI audio in. The HDMI adapter connects to my USB port on my phone and some tablets has a mini hdmi port. Not sure if they make a conversion from hdmi to something say coaxial or fiber out to get the high quality digital audio signals to the amp.
