Default 2001 4.7 4x4 Shifting Problems

I have a 2001 Durango and it has started shifting into 1st at about 2-3 mph and wont shift into overdrive. I have unhooked the battery and changed the input speed sensor in the tranny and it ran fine for a day with just local trips around town. Then it started doing the same thing again. I had to change the solenoid pack in the transmission about 6 yrs ago when it did the same thing. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or has had this problem before? I was hoping for cheaper fix other than the solenoid pack that is about $400 from the dealer. Thanks for any help!!

I would find out what codes you have stored in the TCM before replacing parts. If you have any of the codes, post them.

I just took it to one of my local tranny shops that reads the codes free of charge and come to find out it is solenoid A in my shift pack. Any ideas how hard that is going to be to change??

I forgot to mention that it has a 45RFE tranny in it.

I would guess the code was P0750? That would be the solenoid pack.

Do you know how hard it would be to change? I have to find one other than a dealer. The guy that read the codes for me told me he would change it for $350.00 and that includes filter and fluids.

Thats not a bad price. Because the valve body needs to be remove to make the repairs.

I appreciate the help. I had to reset the codes the other day because I was away from the house and it started acting up on me and ever since I did that it has not messed up on me since and that was almost a week ago. Makes me think that the solenoid is not completely gone or if it is something else. I was also wondering if gutting the catalytic converter would cause the think to start smoking some? Didn't know if there was some back pressure that would be an issue with that.

I just got a 4.7 4x4 last week. It ran great all weekend, now whenever I let off the gas the transmission seems to slam hard. What does that sound like?

It could be your low on fluid you need to drive the D for 15 minutes find level ground go through all the gears then put it in neutral apply parking brake and check fluid level also the fluid should be red
