Default P0442 Code

P0442 Evap Leak Monitor Medium Leak Detected

Basically wondering if it's just a guessing game of where the leak is or if the code is specific enough that there's a general area to start looking at. As for symptoms...nothing haha I don't hear anything, truck runs and drives fine, everything works so I can't give ya much more than the only code that's showing up.

could be as easy as a bad gas cap or as much of a PITA as replacing all the evap hoses under the truck and in the engine bay.

the most common cause is the gas cap, the #2 spot on the list of the series of hoses leading to the charcoal canister underneath the truck, if you did a search or checked the FAQ thread there is at least one DIY on this CEL code

My bad. You reminded me that I looked this up on my phone last night but I wasn't of sound mind lol but I'll replace the gas cap, check under the truck and other places just to be safe and leave an update.

I just threw this code yesterday. So the search is on.

Question though: I replaced the fuel pump last week, and we had a hard time getting the filler tube hose off the filler when lowering the tank. Wondering if we maybe cracked that hose a little bit? Do you think that could cause this code?

Thanks! I read up on all the threads. Gonna do the usual gas cap replacement along with the hoses that go bad on the carbon box or whatever that was called.

My guesses will always be gas cap, hoses, leak detection pump...gas cap should be from dealer. Any other might crap out...thats just my thoughts tho

Figured I'd just add to this thread instead of making a whole new one.

Ended up being a cracked hose under the hood which I fixed but now...

P0445 Evap Emission Sys Purge Ctrl Valve Circ Shorted

If it said leak somewhere in there, I would just go check hoses again but it doesn't and I can't right now anyway, so given "Ctrl Valve Circ Shorted", I'm lead to believe it's something other than just a leak, no?

BTW I am looking at other threads about this stuff, but like I said..can't go check anything right now so I'm just trying to get a head start and/or try to sum it down a little.
