Post Replaced upper radiator hose for the 2nd time

.....in 3 years. One of the plastic rings, by the cap, split and sprayed antifreeze all over the engine. I started it to get the fluid to flow and I kept hearing a constant ticking sound. It's coming from behind the battery at the little black contraption that has an electric plug going into it, with 2 black elbows below that. I never noticed the ticking before. Any ideas as if it's going out, went out or just needs to be replaced?

Thanks,

This is just a guess, but it sounds like you might be talking about that auxiliary electric water pump.

I've never heard of such a thing...?

Sounds to me more like the "Purge solenoid" for the evap system. One way to tell if it's bad is if you get the check engine code P 0456. If you hear it clicking tho, for what it's worth, just replace it.

About to have to buy another upper radiator hose. Noticed the dried antifreeze showing by where the hose meets the plastic. I hate to keep replacing it with more plastic-wrapped crap. Anyone know if I can just cut those plastic connectors off and replace with steel clamps?

You can buy the individual hoses(left & right of the tee) from Rock Auto then reuse your tee and add a couple hose clamps, but I think its more expensive that way. They offer four different brands preassembled, I personally would just try a premium brand other than what you had.

Thanks. I had a Mopar one each time. I didn't burp the system, so maybe it built up pressure and split the weakest part? It never overheated though. The ticking noise went away after I heard the gush while driving. I may just get another Mopar one and burp it this time. Thoughts?

I did this and have not had any issues so far. Been a little over a year since I did.

I had a mopar one fail but it had almost 200,000 on it, and I replaced it with an acdelco and a safety thermostat. I never burped it, assuming the hole in the safety thermostat is letting the air purge with no problems.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep an eye on it, as I don't smell any coolant, so it may just be left from the initial install. (thought about that while having a beer yesterday)
