Default 99 Durango dash BRAKE light flashes on/off with the ignition off

My 99 Durango dash BRAKE light flashes on/off with the ignition off and the e-brake engaged. I release the e-brake and the light goes out. Any suggestion?

Cant really help much but the brake light on my 01 only flashes when I forget to release my e-brake and try to drive. Maybe a maladjusted or bad switch is making your D think you are driving with your e-brake on? I haven't the faintest idea where to start looking, sorry.

thats normal behaviour, if you have the ebrake engaged and the truck in gear the light flashes to get your attention and remind you that you have the brake on so tha tyou dont drive w/ the e-brake engaged.

missed that part, there must be a short somewhere which is energizing the circuit w/o the key installed, its time to start tracing wires

I have no idea were to start checking for that shorted wire, in the mean time all I can do is keep the e-brake off but I would like to fix it before the issue becomes out of hand.

You could probably disconnect the switch on the parking brake until you figure it out, that way you could still use it.

Check the brake ratchet and see if you have a pinched wire.
