Default Used 5.9 Engine Question (Price/PCM)

Hi, I was wondering what the going rate for a used 2003 5.9 engine was with 115k on it roughly? I was going to put the engine into a 2001 RT, that should be a direct swap and not need a PCM right?

Are you looking to buy one, or sell one? Prices are all over the place..... essentially, any 5.9 from 98 and up will work for you.

Looking at buying one. Guy is asking $400. Sounded fine but the truck has been sitting for a good 6 years. I heard it run for about 5 minutes. I looked down the intake and definitely saw some oily stuff in the keg Assuming its plenum oil issue.

That's actually not a bad price. Since it has been sitting for such a long time, I would be tempted to 'refresh' it though. New bearings/rings/gaskets.

Why couldn't you use a 94-97 5.9? The blocks are the same If I remember right, and all the accessories will swap over.

In all reality, you could. There are some differences in the intake manifold, and the 95 or older will have EGR as well, but, essentially the same engine.

like has been said, prices all over. and no matter what I got, all new gaskets, seals, freeze plugs while it is out and easier access, would be a minimum I would do to a used engine before I dropped it into something else, along with a tuneup , water pump, thermostat---and add a timing chain set if the replacement engine is at or over 100K miles. especially since you will be right there anyway, if you are replacing "all" of the gaskets and seals... I just put a 136k mile 360 into my Durango this summer, bought off of CL for $200..... if history of engine is unclear these steps are even more important..... and pull a couple of bearing caps for inspection while pan is off. You heard the engine you're considering run already, that is a plus. miles isn't everything, how that engine was taken care of is more important
