Default goin to buy a Durango.. your opinion

hi guys, I'm about to get a drango, maybe a 2002 one
and i really would like to know what does the durango owners think about this vehicle, is it comfortable? does it multifunction alot?
what are the major issues about it?
i already asked one owner, and he said that the durango drinks alot of fuel...

If I were buying today, I'd buy a 2003, not a 2002. It is the latest in the Gen1 model, has the newer interior and of all the years, the only one with 4 wheel disk brakes. The best all around for a Gen1.

Yes, it drinks fuel, it is large and heavy and spry and safe afterall and that comes at a price. The price of 12-17MPG fuel economy.

No major issues and few minor ones. It all depends on how often and how well it has been maintained. Take care of a Durango and it will take care of you. Don't keep up on the maintenance and who knows what you can expect.

Make sure to get in a 5.2 or 5.9 there are problems in the 4.7's that can cause headaches though chances are you won't ever see the problem (Do a search on engine sludge) other than that the 5.2's and 5.9's are bulletproof engines they will never give you any problems as long as you maintain them as Indy stated. I had tranny problems a lot earlier than anticipated but just remember if you ever happen to have tranny problems MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE RADIATOR WITH THE REBUILD. I have a lifetime warranty on my new radiator so I won't have to worry about that if I ever need another rebuild and if you don't replace a radiator it can just cause sensors to go haywire and soon after the tranny will need to be rebuilt. Other than me wanting a manual tranny (I'll work something out with a tranny for a Ram) I love my D.

I love the look of my truck but its something to be avoided. Multiple seriour problems that the dealer can't resolve - faulty PCM, all sorts of odd computer issues. I would say mine was a lemon but if you search on the internet you'll find lots of horror stories.

There are a lot of Durangos on the road Bad. I would say the tranny is the only big problem sooner or later everyones tranny goes out in these but if you know someone who knows what they are doing you shouldn't have another major problem...

Faulty PCM's are actually pretty rare from what I have seen around and I've done quite a bit of research on the D since buying it last year.

Other than that it is all minor issues for the most part. Resistor pack here, TPS there.

I love my Durango. Make sure you get the 5.9L or the 5.2L. You really want the 3.92 gears if you want more *****.
