how do you think early trucks and stretched vehicles were made. they cut the frame and stuck in another section, welded it back and it was fine. how would this be any different. i give props to you for the great job. nice color also. plus if ya think about it you'll have alot more respect for the car since you built it yourself.

I dont get what he has against it though, there is nothing wrong with doing what scrap did so long as you do it right, good welds will hold better than metal.

i not trying to bash on anyone here but just have to state my opinion. If the STR4 unbody is heat treated welding will weaken the part that is welded. grinding your weld also can substantially reuduce the strenght of the weld.

i know people do this all the time but the diffence is that when they spice the peices they use patch plates to reanforce the area. Maybe it will workjust fine but my advice to you is that you be 100% sure before you start drifting the car into corners.if anything don't cover the welds so much so you can inspect the area for cracks

finally someone who agrees with me. there is no way your welds could be stronger than the original body. plus with all the work you did and all the stuff you bought you couldve just made a 2nd gen look like the srt4 and swapped eng.trans. it looks great, dont get me wrong! but i wouldnt drive it above 50 in a straight line. and i would definately avoid speedbumps!

my uncle builds 56&57 chevy bel airs for a living. he shortens them makes them longer anything you can think of. and there welds hold. so why wouldnt his? and maybe he doesnt want a gen2? did that ever come into play. may be he wants to say i have a srt-4! not i have a gen2 made to look like a srt-4. either way its coming along great cant wait to see the final product!
