Cool should i raise my compression ratio?

i searched the forums alot and i was kinda steered away from shaving the head down. i want to build this neon to be pretty dam quick. what should i do? crane 12-14 cams? slightly shaved head and 10:1 ratio? what would be the best combination of parts as far as cams and pistons? i still want to run on pump gas 93 octane.

turbo is being considered too but its a daily driver too.

10:1
crane 14's unless you have the option of crane 18's

would get up and go pretty quick

I have 12.1:1, Crane #18, Crane valve springs, adj. cam gear, underdrive pulley, adj. fuel pressure regulator, high flow fuel pump, Ported & polished head, enlarged valves, 5 angle valve job, 3.0 cai, 60mm tb, mopar pcm, msd ignition, granatelli wires, ngk iridium plugs, mid tube header, no cat, 3" straight pipe, solid motor mounts, booger bushings, no ac or ps components, no egr, lowered 4", lightweight flywheel, stage 5 ceramic/Kevlar road racing clutch, Lightweight racing rims, braded ss brake lines, carbon/kevlar pads, Clevelle 77 bearings w/ blk antifriction coating on bearings and pistons, I think i'm forgetting something. well, mine gets up and goes. let's put it this way, dead even w/ an '07 C6 Vette till Mid 5th gear. oh, by the way, the vette is just hitting 4th gear then.

Just dont boost the compression up and then decide to go turbo.

very true...decide now which way you want to go...now going turbo is just as reliable, if not better than going high compression as long as you keep the boost under 8psi.

with a turbo you can always add a bit more power whenever you want....with all motor it will always cost more money to get more power

The NA route is a noble challenge. Without the juice or boost you would have to increase your RPM's to make decent power, compression alone doesnt make too big of a difference. Check this link out, its fairly accurate
http://www.bgsoflex.com/crchange.html

I've said this before, an engine is a glorified air pump, pump more air make more power. The cylinder heads need to be ported, the cam needs to be big, the intake needs to have flow and the exhaust needs to breathe.

CFM x 0.70 = HP

Check this link out to find CFM, use the neons 122 cid, use 90% for VE and the 6500 rev limit (mine) and you will get 144 HP which is damn close to stock.

I got about $6000 in my motor...that includes boring, honing, porting @ polishing, the larger valves, cams, valve job, pistons, coatings, stud kits, connecting rods, bearings...the whole 9 yards.

ok sounds like ill just boost on stock compresion then lower the ratio later. i think i have a minor issue with how its running now. it just doesnt seem like it has all the a** it used to. ill push first all the way to about 7500 rpms ten slam it in to 2nd hard and it used to really burn 2nd gear hard now it just spins 2nd a lil i have no cel idk what to look for.

I think the problem is the clutch slipping a little bit. that could be your reason you arn't catching 2nd anymore. doing that really wears your clutch out fast.
