Default what gives?!

ok, so time to be brutally honest. when I took on that 90ish regal gnx, I let him pass me after 50 mph. He was actually gaining by then. My car takes unbearably long to reach 100 past 70mph. It takes 28.91 seconds to reach 100 from 20(since I dont have manual, or stall converter). I've got the DOHC what gives?!

Now, I may have an answer with the header I have yet to install, but I know i'll crave more. Do my manual DOHC brethern get to 100 faster? Is it the pcm, or the hot air intake?

headder, 60mm throttle body would be a good start. you will find that number fall quick. also...look at weight. weight is ur biggest enimy. Would you possibly have large heavy chrome rims? that will slow your neon down worse than anything else.

if your Neon is auto, then thats the problem. the DOHC autos are the slowest Neons.

yeah, our redline is at 6500 rpm. Then thats when the rev limiter hits. You manual guys can twist it to 7200??? Might be time for a manual swap, rather than a stall converter for 400 smackers.

Im intalling my header this weekend, but could I swap to the manual PCM? That would be more of a power increase than the header and 60mm tb right?

yeah us manual guys get the nice 7200rpm redline... and let me tell you its gotta be one of the best sounds i've heard pulling 7200 in my car... and its stock lol... and its still pulling at 7200 pretty hard cause i've hit the rev limiter before and its like hitting a brick wall lol... about your only option is to either get a full tranny build (full manual valve body) or swap to a 5spd so you can get where the power is...

ah crap, well what about swapping the PCM? The auto tranny isnt controlled by it since its full hydro and I don't have cruise control, should I try this too along with the header swap this weekend??? Let me know, Im gonna make some calls!!!

the problem lies in the fact that the trans will still shift at the 6500... go ahead with the bolt ons they will help... a underdrive pulley will help a fair amount to... anything to lessen the extra drag on an auto engine... you will notice the pulley more on an auto then a 5spd... there has to be something you can do to that tranny to get it to shift at a higher rpm...

switching PCMs wont help. the Manual PCM wont know how to work with the Torque converter lock up.

if you put the selector in 1 then 2 instead of D it will hold that rpm straight to the rev limit which scared that crap out me when I tried it. So I wonder if I change the PCM and shift manually will I reach the 7200 rev limit! The pcm from my scrap yard is 35 bucks which is well worth it to try it. Hopefully I can bring that 28.91 seconds down to maybe 20 (if I pray..)

This weekend by Saturday we will know for sure. The header, air raid filter (as opposed to dirty rusty ebay filter), pcm swap and louvers in my hood right over the filter!!! I will have pics of this buck-jones setup by Sunday!
