Default 99 neon ...... srt-4 turbo help??

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and I know someone who is getting stage 3 for there srt-4 and is it possible to take the old tubo and use it on my 99? right now yes it is stock SOHC and i know it's auto but with out having to change it to a Manual can the turbo be put on my car if I got the other gear needed for the motor?

Has anyone done this yet with the turbo from the srt-4?

Thanks
Rob

Yes the turbo can work, but you will need an adapter for your SOHC engine. The SRT-4 turbo exhaust manifold bolts right up to the DOHC. You will also need a downpipe, oil feed and return line, a BOV, wastegate, piping, RRFPR, bunch of fittings, clamps, intercooler, intercooler piping, and then you will need to upgrade your exhaust.

*edit* Almost forgot bigger injectors and a better fuel pump.

whats RRFPR?
Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator, not necessary but nice to have one.

*edit* You have to have some type of FMU (fuel management system) if you don't go with the RRFPR. It's good for low boost cars, but not so good for high boost cars, I've heard. Also needed will be a voltage clamp or missing link so the stock PCM doesn't freak out. Do not use aftermarket PCM's with a turbo.

Alright cool,

So would it be worth it cost wise? like getting the turbo from the srt-4 going to save me much compaired to if i just go and buy a "Chill Factory Intercooled Turbo Kits for SOHC and DOHC" or "Hahn Racecraft Stage 1 SOHC/DOHC Turbo system" ?

Thanks

It can be cheaper if you build your own turbo kit, but you have to know what you are doing and what you are getting yourself into. Do alot of research and reading and I'd recommend a book called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. A must have if you are building your own turbo. If you don't want to do all that or have the time then I'd recommend the Hahn stage II turbo kit. The Chill factory is supposed to be better, but good luck getting the kit in a timely manner. I think there are people who have been waiting over a year for a complete kit or parts they have ordered. I don't think they are taking any new orders until the other ones are completed, last I heard.

So what your saying is i can run turbo with low boost without a fuel managment system (megasquirt) if i have the RRFPR? how hard is it to install how much does it cost, where do i get it... Thanks!

You don't need megasquirt for a turbo. The RRFPR would be your FMU and you would need a MAP clamp so your PCM doesn't see the boost! Here is a RRFPR on eBay form Cartech Begi, a good brand. This would allow you to tune the fuel pressure for the bigger injectors that you would need. If you are serious about going this route, look for one that has a base pressure adjustment, so you wont have to run a seperate 1:1 regulator. You also need to run a fuel return line back to the fuel pump or gas tank..take your pick.

I have a question that might sound dumb.....but doesnt my 99 dohc neon have a fuel return line?
ok two questions.....do i remove the stock FPR? also what is a base pressure adjustment? and what brands have this?
I see that the vortech super FMU has many adjustments...but the rate only goes up to 7.1...does anyone know if they have one that goes up to 12.1?

No it doesn't. You have a fuel rail that is fitted for a return line, the test port can be used if you take the valve out.

No, you bypass by doing the Spoolboy mod. Google should yield you some info.

Go with a Chill Factory or Cartech/Begi RRFPR.
