tips for getting crank pulley off
Okay, so I am finally going to replace the water pump and timing belt on my new (new to me) motor. I got the crank pulley off with not too much sweat and tears from my old motor to get my brand new water pump out of it. However I cant for the life of me get the crank pulley to move on my new motor. I have been hammering on it for about 20 to 25 minutes with the impact and it hasent budged. I have busted the head off one of the bolts of the puller and have almost broke the socket a couple of times. My impact is getting to hot to use at times also.
Does anyone have any tricks? or know of any way to get some kind of penetrating oil under the the pullet to get it loose? I have tapped it (not hard so I didnt kill any bearings I hope) with a hammer and nothing. Im gonna go nuts soon. All I have is a propane torch so that isnt gonna do crap all to heat it up...
Thanks,
Mike

What Size air compressor are you using?
A professional quality Air Impact Driver with a good Heavy Duty Air Compressor will put the pulley back on!
I have tried Electric Impact Drivers and Cheap Harbor Freight Air Impact Drivers with NO success until I bought a quality Air Impact Driver 1/2"

ywhat kinda puller are you using???...i have a snap-on puller that is only about 3 inches tall and uses push rods to push off of....it wirks great...but autozone rents the same type of puller but i believe its an OTC...but either way just the same and works just as well...and im pretty sure you wont be breaking one of them.....and when you get alot of tension on the puller, lightly tap the push bolt dead on the head a few times....that works alot of the time

you could even buy one, but its more then renting one...my snap-on was like 120.00 but i think that OTC is under 60.00....i once tried to get off the crank pulley using a cheap puller from J.C. whittney....ended up goin there and buying about 3 a day....i think i went through about a dozen of them, then i got the snap-on, never failed me yet

before i got my snap on, i took a 3/8 drive long extension for my ratchet and ground it down so that it would fit into the hole...it worked, until the last time that i used it...it got stuck in the hole...but i t didnt matter because i was junking the car anyways
