Miles per gallon- What are you getting?
that 4 speed transmission probably has a lot to do with it. you gain 1-2mpg with a standard transmission. my dad's 95 f150 with 5 speed can consistently get 21mpg when doing highway driving.
That is mostly what I do too. I use it mainly as my ranch truck to go to and from the feed store, and to do Walmart trips and the town I go to is about 20 miles away from my land and is on basically flattish kinda hilly roads that are straight. And the speed limit which I stick to because of all the Deputies is 45. I do drive it into the city every once in a while but that is all freeway after the 15miles down my road.
When I got my truck, I was getting 9.8 then it went to 9.2. I am driving much mellower and got 10.2. I will post tomorrow but, I am really hopeful it is better than that now. I got over 300 on this tank last night and have a 1/4 gal left. It is a 30 gal tank (I believe). I have stuck 28 gal's in it before. 96' 3500 dually 4x4 with a Magnum V10
I last said that I was up to 14 mpg from 12 due to a change in driving style. Well, driving like a grandma is a good way to drive you crazy, so I was quickly back to my normal ways, and getting 12 mpg.
I have run enough tanks with my latest change to know that I am for sure getting 14 mpg in normal, not at all babying it driving now. I replaced my stock steel wheels and recap mud tires with aluminum wheels and a much less aggressive but wider tire.
I'm now getting 14 mpg with no change in driving habits. Towing ~5,000lbs, I'm getting about 11 mpg. Not too bad methinks.
Coming soon, I'll be spending a mandatory $150 on emissions related repairs when my truck fails the sniffer test next month. I plan on cutting the factory y-pipe ahead of the "Y", and going to dual cats, an H pipe, and dual mufflers exiting at the back of the cab. I'm not set on a muffler type yet, or on whether I'm going to use 2.25" or 2.5" pipe. Hopefully in going from a 2.5 single pipe with one cat and no muffler to this new setup, I can pick up either some mpg or some power . . . or both. Or it can just sound better and get me my emissions waiver. That would be cool too.
