just thought id get caught up with yall. Built a flat bed for the power wagon and the mileage went down a bit. Now at about 15 - 16 on hyway. flat bed is heavier. Thought I'd ad, the motor is really close to 9 to 1 compression. I used magnum pistons and decked the block about .020. I used a mild rv cam made by melling. The heads are mid eighties 360 heads and so is the intake AND the carb. A Rochester Q-jet. I think this is the key to the fuel mileage, more compression and the Q jet. Actually the valves are larger on the intake! I used chevy valves, not tulip valves, for more compression, 1.92 intake and 1.60 in the exhaust. Used stock ford 5.0 valve springs. Stock 360 exhaust manifolds are used. I think that I could get a bit more mileage. I need to put a new thermostadt to try to keep the temp up to 190-200. I also need to tune the carb a bit more. Winter fuel also takes a hit on the mpg. BTW the pistons are made by Melling also. I did not balance the engine. Another plus for mileage is the heavy flywheel believe it or not. (think momentum). Oh well it has been cold this winter so I have not done too much to the truck but will start with some more tuning very soon. SEEYAA!

Sure makes a difference on HOW you drive. I get 16~17 if I drive carefully which I normally am. If I drive it like I don['t care what mileage I get, I get 12 or so. Makes a big difference in how often I need to visit the station. But then again I never let it get below half a tank.

That is great for a 360 with a 4bbl. Do you happen to have larger diameter tyres than stock?

Default Weird...but good

I was in the little town where I go to do laundry and get gas yesterday so topped off. I had topped off right before I put my camper shell on last week. I had only driven 48miles but only used 2.4 gallons per my top off yesterday. that is an astounding 20mpg again! Admittedly it is up and down flate roads for the most part but that is pretty dang good for a 1991 W150 with a 318 4 speed. Last time I topped off I had gotten 18.8.
