about 14 in the city and 18 on the hghwy.

stock 85 slant six 225, but I did replace the manifolds, put a high flow muffler, rebuilt the carb, replaced every hose and belt and misc valves, gaskets etc., and put in bosch plugs & wires (putting bosch plugs & wires my wifes carupped her mpg by 7 mpg)and use a tailgate net.

But I also use other tips like NOT buying gas from BP and keeping the tank at or above 1/2 so there is less evaporation of the gas & I buy and put seafoam in every 8th to 10th fill up.

I don't care what they say, I can feel the drag when I use the tail gate and not the net.

This is tremendous gas milage driving in traffic in the northern ky hills!

There was an episode of MythBusters where they tested the myth that driving with the tailgate down improved your gas mileage. I was surprised when they busted the myth. If you keep the tailgate up, it creates a kind of pillow of air that the air flows over. With the tailgate down, it pushes on the back end kind of like a spoiler and it causes extra drag. Anyhow, your post just reminded me of that.

Some people actually work with their trucks, so saving gas money means saving on the bottom line of business. Now you cant really get much work done with a civic, can you?

PlusI think that MPG is a reasonable way to judge the overall health of your vehicle. When I bought this truckI had no idea what mileage it should get. This thread helped me assess a benchmark(about 10 or 12 mpg).Since I was getting only 8mpg i knew right away this truckwas in need ofsome tlc.Caring what mpg I got saved me money (2-4 mpg on a big tank means a lot of money, like 20 a filll-up)by indicating to me that I needed a big tune-up.

So who cares about MPG when driving a V8 truck? those of us who care about our trucks, and more importantly those of ususing it for more than looking toughas we takethe kids to soccer practice.

but if you meant that using these pigs for a 50 mile commute to the office and bitcing about 100 bucksa fillup is dumb, well, yea. i agree
