93 D150 transmission problem

I have a 1993 D150 with the 46rh transmission. When I first start out in the morning the transmission slips when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear.Sometimes I will have to lift off of the throttle to get it to shift, the engine will just rev if I don't lift. It also seems like it shifts way late into 3rd when it does this, it holds 2nd gear longer than normal. It usually only does it the first time it shifts to 3rd, after that it shifts fine. I have changed the filter and fluid using ATF+4. The old fluid didn't smell or look burnt. I adjusted both front and rear bands. I adjusted the TV cable. Any other ideas what to check?

If you have correctly adjusted both front and rear bands and the TV cable the next step would be to do an air pressure test for the front clutch. This starts to get into things most shade tree mechanics shy away from. If the pressure test doesn't reveal anything inspection of various internal components will be necessary. (governor sealing rings, reaction shaft rings, and kickdown band apply linkage, servo malfunction, damaged band or band lining)

I had a site for the manual for your tranny but it has been deleted due to copyright infringement.

Thanks SEAL. Is there a good tech manual I could buy that covers the testing and diagnosis of the 46rh. There was a manual on scribd that I looked at, but I don't believe it covered anything as far as tests to the transmission. It looked like a good manual for teardown and rebuild though. I won't mind tearing into it if I can find a good manual. Its not my only vehicle, so I can take time to hopefully fix it right. Thanks for the help.

CW: I can't tell as I don't have the password to open that file. The title looks right though.
93d150; I only have a manual for the A-727. This is a rebuild tutorial for your tranny. It might help. You have to page thru it month by month.

That manual for the A518 doesn't have a lot of info for testing the transmission. I had seen that one before. I found the atsg manual for the 727 online. It shows how to air test the transmission and also what all of the pressures should be in the various ports. Thank you all for leading me in the right direction.

CW; For the link I posted open the page and click on 2008 and then click on Feb. to start. This was a several month long project so just keep clicking and reading.
That is the manual that I had referred to but has been removed from the link I had. Your link worked this morning but last night it asked for a password so I don't know what happened. "To ere is human but to really screw things up you need a computer." LOL
