Default Revisiting trans/engine swap

So awhile back ago I was very close to doing an engine swap from 318 to 360. I am revisiting that idea except this time I am looking more into an auto to manual swap.

I want to go to a 5 speed (vs 4 speed). If anyone has done anything with 6 speeds Id be interested in that aswell. I recently found a posting on CL with the Getrag 5 speed for sale along with all the parts to do a manual swap. The getrag was attached to a diesel 360. So my question are:
-Will this getrag only match up to a diesel 360 or will it match with a gas 360 too?
-Will the getrag mate with a 318? (if I decided not to swap engines)
-Also is the getrag even worth swapping too? Ive seen alot of people talk about the nv4500 which I hear is really good but is there a big difference?
-The CL says its only for a 2wd truck? Does that really matter?

CL link for reference: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/pts/3718942196.html

FYI my truck: 1992 w150 318 auto trans.

i don't think that would work. you need one out of a gas 4x4 truck. to even make a 2wd trans work with a 4x4 is a lot of work. trying to make a diesel transmission work would complicate things even more unless you plan on dropping a diesel in it.

Nah Im gonna be sticking with gas. There are alot of potential diesel swap donors on CL though but I hear gas to diesel is a huge pain.

Getrag wont fit. You need an NV3500 at the least, or ideally, an NV4500.

Found that link on CL. Not sure what trannsmission that is. Ill probably give him a call soon.

Does anyone have a list (or know where one is) for all the parts needed to convert from auto to stick?

That is a 2wd Getrag trans again for a diesel it isn't going to work for you.

Swapping from gas to diesel if you have a donor truck is a simple swap.

Hmm. I might have to look into it

Should I even consider getting a 4 speed truck?

Found this looking around. Im partially tempted to go check it out. Ext cab, 4x4 cummins. Only thing it needs is a 5 speed

If you want to do a swap to put a manual in your truck the easiest way would be to find another truck for a decent price with a manual in it and then you could swap all the parts. you said in your first post something about wanting to go to a 360 as well, so if you bought a truck like the 4 speed one you posted above then you could use what you want from the 2 trucks to make the truck you want.

From what I gather on here and other websites a 4 sp to 5 speed swap is pretty simple so after converting to a manual if you find a 5 sp you could upgrade, and apparently even use the same clutch from the 4speed.

I would think the biggest probl;em with swapping a diesel into a gas truck would be the weight of the engine apparently they weigh a lot and diesel trucks have some different parts in the front end to accomadate.
