Default La/magnum 360

Hello all, first time posting in the 1st Gen fourm. I'm looking at buying a 93 with a magnum 360 in it. Good motor with around 360,000km.
I work at a scrap yard and we just got a 91 Ram in with the LA 360 and trans. I was going to pull it out and keep it for a spare.
Heres my question, how compatible/interchangeable are the LA/magnum 360's? Is it worth taking as a spare.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, just don't want to pull a motor/trans for nothing.
Thanks in advance.

LA won't work well as a replacement for the magnum. Heads are different, intake bolt angle is different, etc.

thanks for the reply. How would the LA work as just a swap? In terms of connecting the the electrical of the truck?

99% of the electrical stuff is on the intake. Only two sensors aren't, cam sensor in the distributor, not a big deal, and crank sensor on the bellhousing, which the LA block may, or may not, have provisions for. Trouble is, the intake bolts are at different angles between the two, so, the magnum intake will not bolt to the LA heads.

but if im just swapping out the entire magnum for the la?
will I be able to hook it up to the existing computer in the 93 Ram. Or will it be a nightmare?

a complete engine swap like that would be super simple but you need the entire under the hood harness including the computer out of the 91. the 91 would be TBI where the 93 is MPFI. i think there is about a 50hp difference between the 2 so even if the 360 is a bit tired it is still likely the more powerful engine. the swap should be pretty much plug and play. the only thing that you might have issues with is if the 91 does not have overdrive/lockup torque converter. then the 91's harness wouldn't have it where the 93's trans would. you can get kits to control that for about $100 so it is not a bit deal

the 91 does not have overdrive/lockup torque converter.
With the 727 it doesn't but the A500/518 was an option back then. You can see plenty of info between the differences in the LA/magnum motors here.

Thanks guys. Lots of good info for me. I think I will end up pulling the motor, tans and computer out of the 91 and keep it as a back up.
Thanks again

Yes. The wiring harness for the 91 is buggered. But we have a couple more LA 360's in the yard I'm sure I can take one out of
