1989 D100 intermittently stalls and idles poorly..

Think that could cause it to backfire and act way does when put n gear?

your truck shouldn't be idling that high even if it has a vacuum leak. should be idling at about 750-1000rpm. i would almost be wondering if there is something wrong with the idle speed control

Haynes is pretty worthless when it comes to details like that. Same for Chiltons. Factory service manual is a MUCH better resource.

Well the idle control motor seems to move and all idk if that means anything but seems like moves slowly so I’m not sure how to test it out but yeah when idles 2800 seems like it’s much smoother before acts up

Yeah but helped with a lot of other things so far ha I dont have the factor manual unfortunately so idk how could find that..

Did you replace throttle position sensor?
If it is a lockup/OD tranny,it is probably staying in lockup all the time,which will cause in gear problems.If it is a lockup,there should be a connector facing up just above the neutral safety.
Check the part throttle lock/unlock solenoid.

Yes I replaced the TPS the MAP sensor new coil new plugs wires fuel filter vacuum lines intake temp sensor coolant sensor cap rotor Hall effect sensor and well I’ve looked doesn’t have that connector above neutral safety switch at all anywhere and how would I go about checking that?..

Also got idle down to around 1700-2200 but that was with the idle control motor disconnected so idk ha then under the truck notice tranny mount all three bolts were lose and one of my u joints was destroyed so gotta fix that now as well

It should idle around 650-700 RPM when fully warmed, if it doesn't, need to fix that FIRST.
